Spinning Plates
Many of my creative coaching clients seek guidance on managing multiple jobs. In the UK, creative work is often underpaid, short-term, or freelance, which means many creatives need to supplement their income with additional roles—teaching, lecturing, technician work, and more.
I have first hand experience of this, I run a small art dealing business, a coaching business and an arts practice. Managing multiple jobs is commonly referred to as a Portfolio Career. While juggling multiple roles can feel like spinning plates the rewards often outweigh the routine of a single full time job. A diverse portolio career can align with both financial and creative needs. For example, one of my clients works as a technician for a gallery which provides him with the financial stability to dedicate two days a week to his true passion, creating art in his studio.
Are you a creative interested in coaching? During coaching sessions we can explore your various roles, how you feel about each, and what you gain from them. From there, we can work to create a sense of balance, reducing the overwhelm and make your portfolio career more sustainable. This process includes looking at support systems, time management, financial planning, and self-care.
If you feel like you’re spinning plates and need a little help give me a shout using my contact form to see if coaching can help your situation. I am based in Bristol in the UK but use Zoom for sessions which works really well.
